Cabonne Swimming Pools Upgrades

Yeoval Swimming Pool.jpg

Cabonne Council is proud to maintain seven swimming pools across the shire, with ages ranging from over 70 years to just 10 years. These community pools have long been the heart of social life, particularly during the scorching summer months. Our aim is to ensure these pools remain vibrant community hubs, providing well-maintained and accessible facilities for everyone.

Following a successful application for Resources for Regions funding in 2022, we have commenced upgrading some of the ageing infrastructure at Cabonne Pools. Starting in 2023, we replaced non-compliant pool fencing with pool-safe diplomat fencing at all locations.

New Initiatives for the 2024/2025 Season

Unsupervised Swimming Access:

  • Beginning in the 2024/2025 season, inducted patrons will have access to all seven pools from 6 AM to 7 PM daily through the Unsupervised Swimming Access program.
  • This initiative offers greater flexibility and increased usage of our pools, mirroring the success of similar programs in other councils, such as Snowy Valley and Warrumbungle Shire.

Transformation of Lifeguards to Pool Attendants:

  • Lifeguards will transition to Pool Attendants, who will be fully trained in lifeguarding and first aid.
  • Pool Attendants will not provide constant supervision; instead, parents and carers are expected to actively supervise their children, in alignment with the Keep Watch program.
  • This change improves operational feasibility while encouraging greater parental responsibility.

We are excited about these upgrades and new initiatives, which are designed to enhance the community’s enjoyment and use of our excellent pool facilities.

Unsupervised Pools

Unsupervised Swimming Access allows inducted members to use the pools without constant staff supervision. Instead of maintaining a costly backyard pool, you can join our Community pool program, where you'll have access to a clean and well-maintained pool at any time of the day.

Here’s how it works:

Village Pools (Cudal, Cumnock, Eugowra, Manildra, Yeoval):

  • Previous Hours: Open for 3-4 hours daily.
  • New Hours: Open for 13 hours a day (6 AM to 7 PM) for inducted members, with a Pool Attendant present for 2-4 hours most days.

Town Pools (Molong, Canowindra):

  • Previous Hours: Open for 8-10 hours daily.
  • New Hours: Open for 13 hours a day (6 AM to 7 PM) for inducted members, with a Pool Attendant present for 4-8 hours most days.

Access Requirements:

  • Pass Purchase: Patrons must purchase either a season pass or a 10-visit pass.
  • Induction Session: Completion of an induction session, covering safety requirements and procedures, is mandatory. An entry pass will be provided upon completion. Induction is required for each pool you wish to attend, as facilities differ from site to site.
  • Age Requirement: Pass holders must be 18 years or older. You can bring your children, as listed on the user agreement, to the pool.
  • You Must Not Swim Alone: For added safety, you must have someone with you when swimming. Parents can swim with their children if they feel confident or invite a partner or friend to accompany them.
  • Compliance: Non-compliance with terms and conditions will result in pass cancellation, restricting access to general opening times only.

This system ensures longer pool access while maintaining safety and encouraging responsible supervision by parents and carers.

Canowindra Pool Upgrades

The Canowindra Pool is undergoing pump room upgrades to reduce operational costs and replace ageing pumps that affected our hours of operation during the 2023/2024 season.

A newly installed compliant pool fence has not only enhanced the facility's appearance but also improved safety.

Additionally, the installation of unsupervised access gates and the fitting of security cameras for remote monitoring as part of the Unsupervised Swimming Initiative were completed during the 2024 off-season.

Cudal Pool Upgrades

Before the 2023/2024 season, the filter media and laterals in the sand filters were replaced due to significant amounts of filter media entering the pool caused by the degradation of the laterals in the pressurised sand filters.

During the 2023/2024 season, the Cudal Pool received a new compliant diplomat fence, enhancing both the appearance and security of the facility.

The installation of unsupervised access gates and the fitting of security cameras for remote monitoring as part of the Unsupervised Swimming Initiative were completed during the 2024 off-season.

Following the 2024/2025 pool season, the Cudal Pool will undergo pump room upgrades to prevent facility closures due to equipment failure. If the budget permits, additional aesthetic improvements will also be made.

Cumnock Pool Upgrades

During the 2023/2024 season, the Cumnock Pool received a new compliant diplomat fence, enhancing the facility's appearance and security.

In the 2024 off-season, the Cumnock Pool is being equipped with a new filtration plant, which involves stripping out all the original pipework and demolishing the concrete gravity filters to make way for a state-of-the-art ultra-fine pool filter. This advanced filter can remove particles down to 1 micron, reduces wastewater by 90%, lowers electricity consumption, and decreases chemical costs due to its efficient backwash procedure. The system is also automated in its daily operations, reducing the maintenance burden on council staff.

Additionally, the original painted concrete wet deck is being replaced with a non-slip, removable wet deck, improving both water circulation and safety while adding aesthetic value.

The installation of unsupervised access gates and the fitting of security cameras for remote monitoring as part of the Unsupervised Swimming Initiative were also completed during the 2024 off-season.

Eugowra Pool Upgrades

Following the 2022 floods, the Eugowra Pool received a new compliant diplomat fence, enhancing both the appearance and security of the facility.

During the 2024 off-season, unsupervised access locks were installed, and security cameras were fitted to enable remote monitoring as part of the Unsupervised Swimming Initiative.

After the 2024/2025 pool season, the Eugowra Pool will undergo pump room upgrades to prevent facility closures due to equipment failure. If the budget allows, additional aesthetic improvements will also be made.

With the recent success of the Community Activation Project Grant submission, further improvements are planned for the Eugowra Pool. Watch this space!

Manildra Pool Upgrades

During the 2024 off-season, the filter media and laterals in the sand filters were replaced due to significant amounts of filter media entering the pool caused by the degradation of the laterals in the pressurised sand filters.

The installation of unsupervised access gates and the fitting of security cameras for remote monitoring as part of the Unsupervised Swimming Initiative were also completed during the 2024 off-season.

Following the 2024/2025 pool season, the Manildra Pool will undergo pump room upgrades to prevent facility closures due to equipment failure. If the budget allows, additional aesthetic improvements will also be made.

Molong Pool Upgrades

During the 2023/2024 season, the Molong Pool received a new compliant diplomat fence, enhancing both the appearance and security of the facility.

In the 2024 off-season, the Molong Pool is undergoing a refurbishment of the gravity filtration plant, including the replacement of the pump and all ageing pipework. This upgrade will provide a more reliable system for the future.

Yeoval Pool Upgrades

During the 2023/2024 season, the Yeoval Pool received a new compliant diplomat fence, enhancing both the appearance and security of the facility.

In the 2024 off-season, the pool is undergoing a major upgrade with a new filtration plant. This involves removing all original pipework and demolishing the concrete gravity filters to make way for a state-of-the-art ultra-fine pool filter. This advanced filter can remove particles down to 1 micron, reduces wastewater by 90%, lowers electricity consumption, and decreases chemical costs due to its efficient backwash procedure. The system is also automated, reducing the maintenance load on council staff.

The original painted concrete wet deck is being replaced with non-slip, removable wet deck panels, improving water circulation and providing additional aesthetic and safety benefits.

A memorial garden for former lifeguard Lucy Smith has been installed at the front of the pool, complete with a concrete footpath connecting the disabled access carpark to the entrance and incorporating the existing bike racks. The remaining 355 committee funds were used to complete this project.
